Sales and Use Tax Contractor
Job Description
Looking to jump into a project where your skills will actually get noticed? We’re searching for a sales and use tax pro to join our client’s team on a 12-week temporary/contract basis in the Irving/Las Colinas area. This role comes with a flexible hybrid schedule (2 days in-office, 3 days remote), direct exposure to senior leadership, and the potential to convert into something longer if it’s the right fit for both sides. If you enjoy rolling up your sleeves, collaborating across teams, and putting your tax expertise to work, this could be the perfect next step.
Responsibilities:

Handle preparation and filing of recurring sales and use tax returns (monthly, quarterly, annual), with Texas as the main focus

Review invoices and transactions to confirm proper use tax treatment and maintain supporting documentation

Track and reconcile sales tax liability accounts within the general ledger to ensure accuracy

Stay on top of state and local tax updates, interpreting changes and applying them to day-to-day compliance

Provide audit support by pulling records, preparing responses, and working with leadership to address inquiries

Partner with internal teams to confirm accurate tax coding and manage exemption certificates

Assist with new tax registrations and licensing as business needs expand into additional jurisdictions

Liaise with outside tax advisors and auditors as required

Identify opportunities to improve processes and support automation projects within tax compliance

Maintain organized, detailed records leveraging systems such as Avalara and other tax systems

Use Excel (v-lookups and pivot tables) to analyze data, reconcile accounts, and prepare reports for leadership

Support the VP on ad hoc projects and provide insights that drive better decision-making
Requirements:
-
Proven experience with sales and use tax, specifically in Texas.

Avalara software experience strongly preferred

Proficiency with Excel (v-lookups and pivot tables required; macros not needed).

Strong analytical and organizational skills with keen attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal overtime.

Excellent communication skills and professionalism when working with leadership.
Additional Details

Hybrid schedule: 2 days/week in office (preferred days are Mon–Wed).

Reports directly to the VP and will interact with the CFO.
