Interim Assistant Controller
Job Description
We are seeking an Interim Assistant Controller for an exciting, fast-growing construction organization known for its outstanding culture and collaborative team environment. This individual will provide immediate support across accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, project accounting, and construction-specific accounting functions. The ideal consultant will bring strong construction accounting expertise and help provide additional bandwidth to the team while managing job costing, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, retainage, and overall financial operations during a period of continued growth.
Attributes:
- Support accounting operations including GL, AP, AR, payroll, and project accounting functions
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules
- Review WIP schedules, job costing reports, project profitability, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, management reporting, variance analysis, and project margin reporting
- Ensure proper handling of retainage, lien waivers, change orders, billing, collections, and construction-related accounting activities
- Maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and GAAP compliance
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff while providing leadership and technical guidance
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, audits, and tax compliance initiatives
- Partner with project managers and operations teams to ensure accurate project financial reporting
- Strong construction accounting experience required
- Experience with WIP reporting, job costing, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition required
- Strong communication skills and ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with Sage Intacct, Sage 300, or other Sage ERP platforms strongly preferred
